Australia’s First Extreme Heat Awareness Day – 5 February

Heatwaves are our deadliest environmental disaster. Sweltering Cities is the national community voice for heat safety. It is working with many community organisations, including the Australian Red Cross, to launch the first ever Australian Extreme Heat Awareness Day on 5 February 2025.

How can you get involved? Visit the campaign page for ideas including how you can:

  • Check-in with neighbours, family and friends to make sure they are OK
  • Test your knowledge with an online Quiz
  • Join the free Australian Red Cross webinar on Wednesday 5 February
    • 11am to 12pm in Western Australia
    • 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm in Northern Territory
    • 1pm to 2pm in Queensland
    • 1.30pm to 2.30 pm in South Australia
    • 2pm to 3pm in New South Wales, Tasmania and Victoria
  • Get prepared using the Australian Red Cross heatwaves information
  • Share your story and messages on social media
  • Sign petitions to ensure no one is left behind in a heat wave.
